So here I am. Staring at the screen, wondering what to write today. I’m trying to make this more of a habit. But, I’ve looked through my notes, seen what I haven’t tackled yet, but nothing spoke to me. Then I realize, I just had a good night at the record store–all be it, the last one, because it’s shutting down. Which provided for a good night since it was apparently (apparently…some of you know what I mean) no holds barred. If you wanted a turn on the tables, have at it. People rotated in DJing about once an hour. And closing time? There was no closing time, it no longer mattered.
The thing I realized–talking to people, enjoying the music, hanging out with friends–looking around, it’s what society SHOULD be. People from different backgrounds, different cultures, different upbringings, different situations. But we were all there just to enjoy and have fun. Black, white, latino, asian, man, woman–it doesn’t matter. Anyone who knows me, knows I am not racist, not even mildly judgmental, I don’t know how to be. (I’m so un-racist, I might have even spelled it wrong.) Most of these people I don’t even know well, but I can still call them friends. No one cared what you looked like or what you may have done the day before. It’s just about acceptance and saving judgement for court cases.
When we hang out in that space, it’s like that’s the way society should be, people being able to get along. Not just tolerating or ignoring, but accepting and helping–or just simply enjoying the company and the time spent. We never know what the next day may bring, we need to enjoy today. And not wasting it on judging and racism, that needs to be the norm. Honestly, it must be exhausting to hate on so many people–especially when you haven’t even taken the time to get to know them.
That’s my lesson for the day–hate is over-rated and acceptance is easy. And that’s…One To Grow On.
